Technical improvement of the cooling system of a Heineken Extreme Draught (XD) beer dispenser in order to avoid extensive ice formation on the internal walls.
By adjusting the refrigerant flow direction of the skin evaporator construction, adding an accumulator, adjusting the capillary size and changing the refrigerant charge, the performance of the evaporator was improved. This resulted in a higher evaporation temperature and shorter compressor operating times. Due to these effects the automatic defrosting process was facilitated and (short and long term) ice formation was avoided. A additional advantage was that the overall energy consumption of the system was reduced too!
